First Day?

My first day was pretty nice. I had recently found out an email detailing my arrival at the school as well as my schedule was sent out to the whole school. I did find it odd how everyone seemed to know where I would be next but that sure was a surprise.

There are a few things different about this school compared to Benedict's. Here attendance is not as stressed, and I can even leave the school campus freely if I wish. This may have to do with the fact I am a senior, but I am not entirely sure. During student free time such as lunch and their unscheduled periods they are free to do almost anything they would like. From going to the school's weight room, to playing basketball in the school's main common area they have free reign over their free time. Another interesting fact about this school culture is the fact that teachers are called by their first names here. It was a little awkward for me in the beginning, but I am slowly adjusting to it. A really similar thing was the advisory period. It was almost like group but instead the entire Senior class met in room and were given a presentation about life skills and how to survive in college. Using our group period like that would be really interesting!

I did not really find it difficult to make new friends. The advisors had paired me up with a senior or a buddy in each one of my classes. So, after classes were done I would kind of just stick with them for a little and move onto the next period. Everyone is also pretty welcoming here as well. It wasn't hard to meet people or approach other for conversation. Overall, it was a very fun school day.

After school I went to the field with Gabe. The track, lacrosse, crew, and tennis team are all in the same vicinity, so I walked around mostly and watched practices. I had a couple friends that were on the track team, so I mainly stuck around there. The tennis team had their final matches soon, so I did not want to interrupt their practices. The coaches of the track team were pretty chill and a few of them even said it would be fine for me to join their practices for a little so I will probably bring my sports gears on Tuesday!

Overall, the official day 1 was great and I am having a lot of fun. There more to come and I am extremely excited about!

A picture with one of the Klaris family cats. They greeted me early in the morning.

  1. I am glad to see that you felt welcomed and connected right when you got there! Of course, you would end up at a house with cats. : )
